Gourmet Morning Start to the Week

08/27/2012

For many, getting prepped for the start of the week is an all so important transition from the freedom of the weekend to gearing yourself for a more responsible mode beginning Monday morning when work begins. If the weekend was a stress reliever that offered the opportunity to enjoy some leisurely activities like a few meals, cleaning around the house and recreation then getting back into the grind is surely a cinch. If the weekend brought more disingenuous activities such as a late nighter at several of your neighborhood bars or an out of town trip, scrambling to get back onto the regular Monday morning schedule may come as more of a challenge. Whichever may be the case, getting some solitude the evening before the office routine begins has always seemed important. Taking the time to read a few chapters from your book, learn about the world's events online, or scanning your Sunday paper are helpful in coping for the week ahead. As the day advances to take place, a regular routine for most everyone is getting that cup of coffee to offer some comfort for the challenges ahead. Whether it's an automatic home brew that gets that first cup into your system or a quick, precisely timed stop into the Starbucks or other location of habit, that morning ritual is key to a good start. It's been my habit of either brewing my own cup when the time permits or grabbing it on the run, sometimes even sitting at the coffee shop to read observe and enjoy. Preferences for that early morning elixcer, aka coffee comes in wide variety for many different people. Some of us stick to the traditional "drip" brew with one of a few accoutrements i.e. cream or sugar. Others prefer the strength from the more finely pressed espresso with the combination of steamed milk and flavoring. I've normally leaned to the former selection.

Getting myself started tomorrow though, I'm modestly anticipating this routine taking place. In my kitchen cabinet is a newly purchased bag of ground roast that a friend of mine picked up when traveling through New York. The coffee that generously was purchased is from a well known, small deli known for their traditional New York sandwiches, assortment of artisan delicacies such as fish, cheese and in the house roasted coffee. It's name is Zabars and they've been a family run business since 1934. The thought of the location on Broadway, is a reminder of the busy streets, crisp mornings as people shuffle about in attractive business attire, or the less formal leisure couple with gym clothes and the dog strolling the sidewalk as they get started for the day. Imagining stopping in to get that aromatic caffeine treat that keeps you company for the day's first hour is in deed a reprieve from the hecticness going on otherwise.

So I am anxious to test out this newly discovered brand of coffee that is now at home with me in Atlanta. I experienced a small sample of it's deliciousness several months ago when a coworker at a restaurant that I work at had brewed some and was greatly pleased by the great flavor. So now with my own small supply, getting the pot brewing tomorrow may hopefully be a warm, tasty jolt to my Monday morning. I'll likely feel compelled to offer a brief description of it afterward. Good work week to you everyone!
