A Preview to the Hottest Event on TV
If you are compelled by that once a year hype which grabs primetime TV attention when CBS loosens it’s inhibitions to broadcast the Victoria Secret Fashion Show, you’re not alone. The event this year took place November 14, although it is not scheduled to air for another month. But from what a behind the scenes glimpse seems to indicate is that the show included three sets of themed walks, frolics, sashes, or whatever the term is for stunningly beautiful ladies strutting down the catwalk wearing a scant assortment of highly styled garments.
The first of the three separate stages was a British theme with the troupe of approximately a dozen models clad in something of a red, white or blue Union Jack style. Categorically worn by Doutzen Kroes for example was an outfit resembling a soccer uniform except for it’s ultra low neck line that enchantingly reveled the glittery blue undergarment that one expects to get a peak at during such an event. The early musical performances included Taylor Swift collaborating with the mild punk rock group Fall Out Boy in a dazzlingly clad Swift akin to something that Posh Spice might have worn several years back. This first outfit entailed a short dress wrapped in a patterned cape to resemble the English flag. Suprising to say however that this years event wasn't held in London but rather on Lexington Ave in NYC.
A backdrop of band members wore looks borrowed from yesteryear in kilts, suspenders and high-top Doc Martens paying homage to London pop while a scattering of Victoria Secret models walked the stage as their songs played. Rock star enuendos seemed to embody a dominant trend in this early part of the show as Adriana Lima is seen in a minimal half plaid miniskirt, zippered leather jacket with signature angel wings of a matching pattern. The tall, athletically slender blonde, Lindsay Ellington, carried a prop guitar slung over shoulder as she gestured ‘rock on’ hand signals while moving across the stage wearing tight red leggings to steal one’s enraptured attention. An emblematic bowler cap was placed atop the gorgeous and equally as outfitted Candace Swanepoel with the bawdier of Victoria Secret ensembles. She was styled in sexy black stockings, heels and sophisticated bra that likely set alarms off upon the gaze of an on looking male. Ms. Swanepoel also claimed the spotlight later in the show, adorned in what's called the fantasy outfit that is valued at ten million dollars of diamond and jewel embroidered underwear, surely an honor among the selection of angels.
The second part of the event projected much to the essence of the brand’s image, a pink motif. This showcase offered a fun, colorful assortment of body paint, an immaculate construction of wing accessories consisting of complete extravagance with feather plumes of many colors and designs. These ornaments elicited the oh so dazzlingly complement to the natural beauty of the ladies with their fair complexions, implorable body sizes, and intoxicating demeanors that jaws were likely held low from the spectators eyeing these sights of hedonistic allure.
Providing the sounds during the mid point of the show was the up and coming edgy, British pop band called Neon Jungle. Rounding out the evening’s procession of top coveted glamour chicks was the snow queen look where sex appeal seemed to only be kicked up a notch. Outfits aplenty of sheer fabrics, soft tones and an essence that hinted at the notion of a colder season ahead presented a last look opportunity at each of these exquisite emblems of visual harmony.
The airing of the event is scheduled for December 10th at 10pm. The appropriateness of such a date and time as 10 on the 10th seems about right for a VS fashion show. Tune in for a hot seat on all of the action.
Nearly ten years later I'm adding an edit to this article that bears mentioning. Taylor Swift was remarkable that evening. She delivered an electrifying performance that can be viewed as emblematic and something of a precursor to her nascent popularity. In late 2013, her iconic recognition was just getting started. We were all just becoming aware. Her most recent album, 'Red' had dropped about a year earlier. This was her fourth and it had spent many weeks on top of the Billboard list as had two of her other previous records. But this was a transitional time that stylistically marked a rigid pivot from the softer, country-esque ballad songwriting into a mainstream Pop sensation of whatever style she chose to create. Observing the crowd's reactions upon the performance of Trouble, seemingly left the crowd feeling awestruck. It's evident that those in attendance had never before witnessed the incredible starpower of her craft. It leaves me to wonder, who was the actual heartthrob that night?
